Special to the DailyFor Jack Berger's Colorado friends and associates, a second Celebration of Life will be held at a future date in Vail.

Jack Berga, construction manager, outdoorsman, ski instructor and charter member of the Backcountry Skiers Alliance, died on Thursday. He was 53 years old.Born Feb. 1, 1950, in Wakefield, Mich., Berga earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Tech University. Jack also served as an Air Controller in the U.S. Navy stationed in Italy.Berga once owned a construction company in Vail, where he was involved with many exceptional projects, including the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, and was part of the East West Partners team that received the Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence in 1998 for the Beaver Creek Village Project.In 2001, he and his family then moved to Truckee, Calif., where he has been working with East West Partners as construction manager for the Northstar Village Redevelopment Project. He was instrumental in managing the remodel of Wild Goose Restaurant in Tahoe Vista.Berga’s expertise in construction, project management and people skills made a significant difference to the project and to all of those who worked with him, friends and colleagues said, and his great sense of humor helped those around him keep the balance between life and work in proper perspective.Throughout his life, Jack loved the outdoors, including fishing, mountain-biking and cross-country skiing. He was a ski instructor and charter member of the Backcountry Skiers Alliance, as well as serving on the organization’s Board of Directors.he is survived by: his wife, Wauneta: a son, Brook; a daughter Kristi; and two sisters, Mary Powell and Betty Bowen.A celebration of Berga’s life will be held Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Village at Northstar.For Jack’s Colorado friends and associates, a second Celebration of Life will be held at a future date in Vail.Jack was passionate about his children’s continuing education, so in keeping with the family’s wishes, a scholarship fund for his children has been established.
