James Campbell, 1927-2006
James E. Campbell died June 14, in Miami, at the home of his son Clay Campbell. He was 78.
Campbell was born in Princeton, Fla., on Nov. 29, 1927. He attended the University of Alabama before entering the agriculture industry, specializing in farm-fresh tomatoes and fresh market produce.
On June 10, 1949, James and Tommie Campbell were married in Statesboro, Ga. They had three children: James Jr. of Woodland Park, Colo., Dawn Campbell Garza of Keller, Texas, and Clay Campbell of Miami. They have five grandchildren.
He enjoyed traveling and was able to see most of the world. He was an avid sportsman, with a great interest in bow hunting, diving, fishing, skiing, and golf, family members say.
He was a member of the Deering Bay Yacht and Country Club in Miami., the Beaver Creek Club, and the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Vail. He also was a founder of the Vail Club 50.
A memorial service for Campbell will be held at the Beaver Creek Chapel in Beaver Creek on Friday at 11 a.m. Use Village Hall for parking.
