Jerome Gallegos, 17, 1987-2004
Jerome Joseph Gallegos died Sunday. He was 17.Gallegos was born on March 11, 1987 in Glenwood Springs. His parents are Jerry and Susie (Casaus) Gallegos. Gallegos grew up in Minturn and was a senior at Battle Mountain High School. He was an active member of the Battle Mountain Huskie Cabinet Co., a high-school sponsored organization that builds cabinets. Gallegos loved any outdoor activity. He was an avid snowmobiler and skier and enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting, friends and family members said. Gallegos also liked paintball, video games, four-wheeling, dirt biking and working on cars, friends and family members said. His family and friends also says they will always remember Gallegos’ friendly, outgoing nature and that Jerome loved to talk and made friends with everyone he met. His family members say they are proud, “to have raised a son who was polite and showed everyone, especially the elderly, proper respect.”Jerome is preceded in death by paternal grandfather Gilbert Gallegos and a cousin, Charlie Salazar. He is survived by his parents Jerome L. “Jerry” and Madeline S. “Susie” Casaus Gallegos of Minturn; his sisters, Alicia Gallegos and husband Jon Spears Gallegos of Grand Junction, and Clarissa Gallegos of Minturn; grandparents Liza Gallegos of Rifle, Nella Casaus of Grand Junction, and Fred Casaus of Minturn. Jerome is also survived by numerous uncles and aunts: Gilbert Gallegos and wife Eileen, of New Mexico; John Gallegos and wife Carol, of Edwards; Debbie Morton and husband Tom of Glenwood Springs; David Gallegos and wife Gloria, of Rifle; Donald Gallegos and wife Stephanie, of Minturn; Tom Gallegos and wife Shawn of Leadville; Fred Casaus and wife Connie, of Rifle; Cathy Casaus and husband Anthony Valdez of Denver; and Theresa Casaus of Grand Junction. Gallegos is also survived by numerous cousins.A rosary was recited by Frances Renner on Wednesday. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Parish in Minturn. Father Hugh Guentner, O.S.M. will officiate.Following the interment in River View Cemetery, there will be a reception at the Battle Mountain High School cafeteria. Pallbearers will be Fabian Medina, Eric Casaus, Richard and Gabriel Salazar, Thomas and Damion Gallegos, Jon Spears, Michael Lovato, Jr. and Joe Valdez.
