Julia Dolores Kaemmer, a longtime Vail Valley resident known to her friends as Julie, died on Monday at age 76. First diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2001, Julie fought her illness with determination, courage and grace.
Born in St. Louis, Mo., Julie was the daughter of Yugoslavian immigrants. A graduate of the University of Colorado, Julie worked as a nurse for many years before moving to Vail to help her husband John in the restaurant business.
Julie was a pillar of the community in the Vail Valley and a friend to many. Her presence will be missed greatly by all those whose lives she touched with her kindness.
She is survived by her brother Les, her sister Marion, her husband John, her children Brad and Kate, and four very special grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at the Vail Interfaith Chapel on Friday at 2p.m. with a dessert reception to follow at the Vail Mountain School.
