Karen MacKellar

Karen Marie MacKellar was born in Minneapolis, Minn., to Harold P. and Jean M. Anderson. Karen moved to the Vail Valley in 1969 where she met husband, Alex MacKellar, and raised daughters, Lindsey and Jenny MacKellar.

MacKellar was a real estate broker for the Vail Lionshead Real Estate for many years and a member of the 10th Mountain Division, Rocky Mountain Chapter.

She was an avid horsewoman, fisherman and traveler, family members say.

She is survived by her husband and daughters; her parents, who live in Alexandria, Minn.; and sisters, Lori Lindahl of Forest Lake, Minn. and Debbie Lindahl of Louisville, Ky.

A celebration of life will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at the Rockin’ TJ Ranch, 781 Lake Creek Road in Edwards. Bright colors and casual dress are encouraged.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Karen MacKellar Memorial Fund at the American National Bank, P.O. Box 2498 Edwards, CO, 81632.

The funds will be directed to local organizations including the Vail Valley Hospice, the new Multi-Disciplinary Breast Clinic at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, and local families in need of medical financial assistance.
