Klaus J. Moeller, 1940-2005

Klaus J. Moeller died August 9 at age 64.

Sept. 3 would have been Klaus and Mary Moeller’s 35th wedding anniversary. Instead, on 3 p.m. that day at St. Mark Catholic Church in Westminster, friends and family will say farewell to the man with the booming laugh and the upbeat nature.

Moeller died in his sleep on Aug. 9, 2005 after losing his second battle with cancer in six years. He was 64.

Moeller was born Dec. 1, 1940 in Germany and came to the United States with his father, a doctor, who had been invited to Minnesota to practice during the great polio epidemic. Years later, the family discovered that Dr. Moeller had treated Mary’s father at the Sister Kenny Hospital.

Following service in the U.S. Navy, Moeller joined the San Diego police force, but he was drawn to the wine-and-food business. He eventually earned the title “master of wine.”

Moeller was the first food and beverage manager at Cotton Ranch. His grand opening party was the first in a series of events that brought the fledgling golf club a reputation for fun and excellent food, friends and family members say.

In addition to his wife, Mary, Klaus is survived by his daughter, Ingrid Strichter; a son, Michael Moeller; and three grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made in Klaus Moeller’s name to the Shaw Cancer Center.
