Mel Del Monte, 1925-2010, of Eagle

Mel Del Monte died in Glenwood Springs on April 3 after a short battle with cancer, with her daughter at her side.

Mel spent the majority of her life in New York City and Long Island. She moved to Washington D.C. when she was appointed the national director of volunteers for the American Red Cross. She was promoted from the Nassau County chapter to this prestigious position, where she ended the apex of her career.

Upon retiring, she and her now-deceased husband, Boris A. Del Monte, retired to Plainfield , Vt. There Mel was on the Plainfield Health Center board of directors for six years. In 2005, they both again moved to Eagle.

She was a vibrant, dramatic woman who was a passionate gardener, reader and cook. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her twins, Melanna Marcellot of Edwards and Gerard Del Monte, of Snohomish, Wash.; grandchildren Adam Marcellot, of Denver, and Julia S-Del Monte, of Pullman, Wash. Her surviving sibling is Marie DiGiovanni, of Tampa, Fla. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In her memory, donations made be made to the American Red Cross. Burial arrangements are private.
