Bob Shelton, a longtime Eagle resident, died Tuesday in Grand Junction. He was born June 10, 1927, to John and Edith Shelton in Littleton. He spent his childhood there and graduated from Littleton High School in 1945. Bob was in the Merchant Marines and was posted to a merchant ship in the Pacific at the end of World War II. He returned to Littleton, where he met the love of his life, Shirley Wilson. The couple married Sept. 7, 1947, and soon moved to Eagle, Shirley’s hometown.Bob joined the Eagle Volunteer Fire Department and the Volunteer Ambulance Service, serving both organizations for many years. He is a past chief of the Eagle Fire Department and helped to form the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District in 1976. He was the first certified emergency medical technician in the valley. For many years he served on the Eagle Town Board, as both mayor and trustee. He also was a member of the Eagle Lions Club and a past master of the Castle Masonic Lodge. Bob received many honors and accolades over the years, but he was proudest of having the new fire station in Eagle named in his honor – Shelton Station No. 9. He was humbled when he was chosen as the Citizen of Year by the Eagle Valley Chamber of Commerce in 2001. Bob is survived by Shirley, his wife of 65 years; two daughters, Lynda Ruggeberg and partner Paul Weber and Lisa Burton and husband Dewain; grandson Jeff Ruggeberg and wife Nikki, of Aurora; granddaughters Staci Greenlee and husband Travis, of Cortez, and Tiffani Lowe and husband Will, of Canyon, Texas; great grandchildren Tyler and Tanner Ruggeberg, Lane and Tylee Greenlee and Garrett and Levi Lowe; brother John Shelton, of Fort Scott, Kan.; many nieces and nephews, extended family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wayne and Don and his much loved grandson Greg Burton.A memorial service will be held at the Greater Eagle Shelton Station No. 9, 425 E. Third Street, Eagle, at 1 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090 North 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506, or the Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, P.O.
