Memorial for Irma Gehrke, 93, Saturday

Irma Louise Lane Gehrke passed away Monday at the Heritage Park Care Center in Carbondale. She was 93.

Gehrke was born Dec. 18, 1910 in Milwaukee, Wisc., to Clara and Joseph Lane. She married Charles Paul Gehrke on June 26, 1927.-

Friends and family members say Gehrke loved to do crafts, paint, dance, play cards, bowl, pitch horseshoes and play bingo as well as travel. In later life she enjoyed the activities of the senior centers in the communities that she lived or visited. Gehrke has lived in Ohio, California, Arizona, Texas, Colorado and her home state of Wisconsin.

Irma’s Lutheran faith carried her through the long life she enjoyed, friends and family members said.

Gehrke’s son, Charles Kenneth Gehrke, as well as a grandson and two brothers, preceded her in death.

Gehrke is survived by daughters, Ione Pinsky of Woodlands, Tex., and Ileen “Terry” Schiessl of Eagle. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.—-

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Mountain Valley Lutheran Church at 802 Brush Creek Terrace in Eagle. Her cremains will be interred in April next to her husband and mother in New Berlin, Wisc.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked donations be made to either Mountain Valley Church or Roaring Fork Hospice.
