Michael Steven Waste

Longtime Avon resident Michael Steven Waste died in his sleep Friday.

Waste had been fighting many injuries sustained from various sports, including surfing, motocross, barefoot waterskiing, scuba diving and skiing, family members and friends said.

He was a member of the local extreme ski team “The Ravinos.”

Waste had been living the last few years with his parents in the San Diego area while undergoing multiple treatments for his ailments.

Waste moved to the Vail Valley in the late 70s. He was owner of Modern Floors of Vail and developed The Bristol Pines town homes in Avon as well as numerous projects in Eagle and Southern California.

He also had a business called Centurion Sports, in which he taught kids many of the sports he participated in, family members and friends said.

He also was a pilot and flew to the many small airports in the mountains.

Waste is survived by his mother, Carolyn Waste; father Donald Waste; sister Cindy Hollingshead; brother-in-law John Hollingshead; and Kahuna, his blue and gold macaw.

Services in the San Diego area are pending and a memorial in the Vail Valley is being planned and will be announced soon.
