Nicholas Lee Coupens, 24, died Saturday

Nicholas Lee Coupens, a Thornton resident who spent time growing up in Minturn and went to Battle Mountain High School, died Saturday. He was 24.

He was born April 15, 1981, in Denver to Jerry Coupens and Gina Hoaglund.

He attended Battle Mountain High School and graduated college in 2001 with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Family members and friends say he enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing and watching hockey, and working on his Mustang with his son.

Coupens was a correctional officer at the Lookout Mountain Youth Correctional Facility for almost three years.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry Coupens and Gina Hoaglund; stepmother Lori; sister Keri; brothers Chris and Ryan; wife Jennifer; and children Chance and Kayli.

Services will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, in Denver at the Fairmount Mortuary.
