Obituary: Gerry Huttrer
February 28, 1939 – March 25, 2025
Gerry Huttrer skied Vail for his “Last Run” the morning of March 25, 2025.
Born February 28, 1939 in New Rochelle, NY, he attended Dartmouth College, played hockey there and graduated in 1960 with a BS in Geology. Gerry then went on to receive a Masters at University of Washington.
Gerry was a highly respected Geothermal expert and travelled the world extensively studying alternative energy. He helped found the Geothermal Resource Council and was acting President for many years. Gerry was an avid skier, sailor, hiker and biker. He was on ski patrol during his time in New Hampshire and in Sun Valley. He taught skiing at Mt. Hood, Sun Valley, Loveland Basin – and at Vail for the past 34 years. Gerry hiked and biked all over Europe and Canada and beyond. Gerrys love of sailing started at the Horseshoe Harbour Yacht Club in NY. Gerry had boats at the Dillon Marina over 42 years and was a Member of the Yacht Club there…he and his wife Cathy raced Ensigns and Etchells – winning the Dillon Open in their class many times.
Catherine Huttrer (Breckenridge), The Apple Family (Vail), The Morrison Family (Parker), The Huttrer Family (Westminster), four grandaughters and an extended Minnesota Family (Janice T Huttrer March 16, 1936 – March 6, 1988) look forward to celebrating Gerrys incredibly full life in some of his favorite places in the coming months. His many friends will be included.
