Obituary: Gertrude Marie Ray

One of the last grand dames of the Eagle Valley, Gertrude exited life elegantly and peacefully on May 5th, 2024, at 94 1/2 years young, at Vail Health. As with the founding partner’s of the Vail Valley, arriving as a second home owner in the early 1970’s, Gertrude was known by so many. Gertrude and Paul bought their first home on Mill Creek Circle in Vail and lived next to President Ford. Gertrude Ray was born in Innsbruck, Austria on November 14th, 1929 to Ernest and Louise Grass. Gertrude was one of 11 children. She is survived by her daughter Anna Maria Ray. Donations can be made in Gertrude’s honor to Anna Maria Ray with the intention these funds will help publish a book and fund education programming on antisemitism and bigotry for a Foundation in Gertrude and Paul Ray’s name.
A memorial service is scheduled for July 7th, 2024 at the Vail Interfaith Chapel in Vail, Co at 19 Vail Rd. Services will start punctually at 1 pm. A reception will follow afterwards.
