Obituary: James Lovato

James Paul Lovato of Minturn, Colorado passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, November 7, 2024 surrounded by four generations of his loving family. He was 85.
Jim was born in Minturn on May 1, 1939 to Eliseo and Mary Lovato. He was one of 8 children. Jim graduated from Minturn High School, class of 1958. Following high school, he worked for the Railroad before becoming a skilled electrician in the construction industry during the early days of Vail’s development. Alongside his wife, Billie Jean, Jim owned Burnett Plumbing Heating and Electrical for many years, a business deeply rooted in the community.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Billie Jean Lovato; their children, James (Bel), Michael (Darlene), and Cindy (Mario); six grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Known fondly for his “Bronco house” in Minturn, Jim was a passionate sports fan, particularly of the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. Above all, he treasured the time spent with his family, attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and celebrating milestones throughout their lives. A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held at a later date in his hometown of Minturn.
