August 21, 1948 – February 17, 2025
Escondido, California – With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, the family of Janice Canepa Anderson, 76, announces her peaceful passing on February 17, 2025, in Escondido, California, surrounded by her loving family.

Janice was born on August 21, 1948, in Los Angeles to Harold and Dorothy Canepa. Her joyful spirit and boundless energy were evident from the very beginning, traits she carried through her entire life.

Though she grew up in Southern California, Jan’s adventurous soul led her to Vail, Colorado in the early 1970s. There, she built a vibrant life among the mountains she loved so dearly—working at The Lodge at Vail, Vail Associates Race Crew, and Purcell’s Restaurant. She formed deep and lasting friendships in the Vail Valley, where she was known for her joyful laugh, radiant smile, and unforgettable zest for life.

Janice filled her days with skiing, hiking, jeep touring through the backcountry, and unforgettable trips to Lake Powell and Mexico. Her life was rich with adventure, and she had a way of turning every moment into a memory worth cherishing.

Years later, with grace and compassion, Janice returned to California to care for her mother and sister Mary. While managing the household, she also worked part-time at Costco—naturally expanding her circle of friends once again. Whether hiking, gathering for potlucks, or enjoying beach days, Janice brought light and laughter wherever she went. Known affectionately as the “Energizer Bunny,” her bright spirit and kind heart lifted everyone around her. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen, loved, and appreciated.

Janice was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Dorothy Canepa, and her sisters Mary and Angie. She is survived by her husband, David Anderson and her beloved siblings: Ed Canepa (Lincoln City, NE), Dave Canepa (Escondido, CA), Brian (Paula) Canepa (Avon, CO), Michael (Vickie) Canepa (Thousand Oaks, CA), and Patrick Canepa & Eliece Nelson (Escondido, CA). She is also lovingly remembered by her cherished niece and nephew, Ali Canepa Biboso and Scott Canepa, whom she helped raise in Vail, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The earth lost an angel that day, but heaven gained one. Janice’s love, laughter, and light will forever live on in all who knew her. Her presence was a gift, and her memory is a blessing.

A Celebration of Life is planned in Edwards, Colorado for mid-June and in Escondido, California in August. Details to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Helen Woodward Animal Center, 6461 El Apajo, Rancho Santa, Fe, CA 92067.
