July 3, 1947 – March 27, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Marina Salas Mays, who died surrounded by family on March 27, 2025 at the age of 77.
Marina was born on July 3, 1947 in Conejos County to O’ Toniel and Dulcinea Salas. She lived with her paternal grandparents until she moved to the Eagle Valley, just in time to graduate from Battle Mountain High School, in 1965. She worked for her parents at Reno’s restaurant in Red Cliff for many years but, she is probably best known as a cashier and bookkeeper at City Market where she worked for over 30 years. Marina moved to Stony Point, NC in 2020 where she lived out her remaining years. She loved the mountains, the beach, the Broncos and taking care of her beloved dog Chewy.
She is survived by her children: daughter Laverne Gomez of Denver, son Steve Gomez and wife Carol of Stony Point, NC, daughter Stacy Brown and husband Mike of Gypsum, daughter Nikki Mays-Gonzalez and wife Michelle of Santa Ana, CA, and son TJ Mays and wife Myranda of Battlement Mesa, her grandchildren: Adriena Sandoval, Travis Carroll, Mike Gomez, Grace Gomez, Emit Brown, Ava Brown, Angie Valdez, and Analyse Vasquez, and her great grandchildren: Baylee Castillo, Devyn Castillo, Olive Carroll, Winona Carroll, Gabriel Mays, and Sequoia Gardner. Marina is also survived by sisters Veronica Sisneros of Denver and Marie Esther Salas of Rio Rancho, NM and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, O’Toniel and Dulcinea Salas, 5 brothers, and 3 sisters.
