Philanthropist Mary Louise Shaw has died

Mary Louise Shaw, who, with her husband helped build Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards, died April 6 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. She was 87.

Shaw graduated from the Northwestern University School of Drama and was a member of Delta Delta Delta.

Shaw, who lived in Dayton resident, also spent time in Vail, where, with husband Harold W. Shaw, she focused her philanthropic endeavors primarily toward health care needs. They helped build Vail Valley Medical Center’s Patient Care Unit, the Shaw Regional Cancer Center and will assist in the building the Cancer Caring House.

The Shaws also made donations to the Hospice of Dayton and the Miami Valley Hospital.

Mary Louis Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 2000 and son, Hal Shaw, Jr. in 1982. She is survived by her daughter Sally Veitch of Colorado Springs and Edwards; two grandsons, Tay (Heather) Veitch of North Yarmouth, Maine, and Robert (Kelly) Veitch of Eagle; and great-granddaughter Phoebe Louise Veitch of North Yarmouth.

A memorial service will be held for Shaw at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center over the Fourth of July holiday. Details will be forthcoming.
