Scott Pillion, McCoy resident, 1956-2011
Vail, CO Colorado
On June 22, Scott Jerome Pillion of McCoy turned the next bend in the river. Born back east on Sept. 18, 1956, he spent the first 25 years of his life terrorizing the people and places of Massachusetts and New Hampshire, until he arrived in the place he loved most, the Colorado High Country.
Everyone who joined Scotty on a steep climb, an action line on the river or through the trees on a powder day knew of his passion and joy for living on the edge and pushing the limits.
Scott battled for the last several years with an exceptionally rare nervous system disorder. When diagnosed, Scott said “God gave me this because I can handle it,” and that’s what he did, with courage and determination.
Prior to his illness, Scott owned and operated his window treatment business, Rocky Mountain Rod, “servicing the Vail Valley since 1980.” He was also a first responder for the Bond McCoy Volunteer Fire Department. The memory of his adventurous spirit and kind heart will be missed by his partner Donna Yurcich, his parents-Fred and Anne-Pillion of Jackson, N.H., his sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews, and his friends too many to count.
A memorial event to celebrate Scott and the amazing life he led will be scheduled at a later date.
