Ski instructor Scott Josephs has died

Scott Alan Josephs of Avon and formerly of Stroudsburg, Pa., died at his home on Saturday. He was 43.

Josephs was born in Havertown, Pa. He was an accomplished skier and snowboarder, having earned high level certifications in both areas, family members said.

For the past 20 years he was a ski instructor at Beaver Creek. Family members said he established a dedicated following of clients and was particularly gifted at teaching children.

He spent the off-seasons doing masonry and refereeing football and soccer in Vail.

Despite fighting illness for most of his adulthood, he maintained a rare positive outlook and a genuine love of life, family members said.

Josephs was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Josephs and Fern Goldberg.

He is survived by his siblings: Steven and Glorie Josephs, Howard and Sherry Josephs, Lisa and David Audet, Jonathan and Lisa Josephs, Marc Goldberg and Sean Selby, Colleen Goldberg, Meredith and Larry Pensack, and Sallie Glickman and Francis Carney.

He also is survived by his stepparents Roselee Feinour and Barney Goldberg; his aunt Neshama Siner; and his 11 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, 5:30 p.m., at the Vail Interfaith Chapel, 19 Vail Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, P.O. Box 1275, Avon, CO 81620 or
