Thomas J. Hopson, an active volunteer in many organizations in the valley, died April 9 at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver after a brief illness. He was 73.

Hopson was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 29, 1930 and spent his youth in southern Michigan. After graduating from Michigan State University he relocated to Southern California where he spent his career in the field of sales and marketing management. Hopson moved to the Vail area when he retired.

He was a volunteer with the Vail Valley Medical Center and the Vail Valley Foundation. Family members say he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing around the world.

Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; his two children, Riley of Eagle-Vail and Todd and his wife, Jennifer; and three grandchildren, Rachel, Leia and Christopher of West Chester, Pa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Hopson’s name be made to the Shaw Cancer Center in care of the Vail Valley Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 1529, Vail, CO, 81658.
