Vail Daily obituary: Bill Pyka, 1946-2015
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Vail Valley local Bill Pyka.
Born William Walter Pyka to Walter and Stephanie Pyka, of Muskegon, Michigan, Bill lost his battle with cancer after a short diagnosis. As many know, Bill came to the valley for his love of skiing.
He worked for the town of Vail as finance director before moving on to begin his own financial advising business, but his dedication to this town never faded. He was an active Rotary member, a participant in the many Vail Symposiums, a board member at the Vail hospital and an enthusiastic attendee of countless Vail Valley social events. He will also be remembered as a seminar director for EST Training events.
He was a powerful speaker and a natural coach. Bill recognized right from the start what a magical valley he had found, and as such, he raised his eldest daughter, Jaime, amidst the cozy streets of East Vail, and recently his younger son and daughter, William and Isabella, in sunny Edwards. He never for a moment questioned the quality of his home here, and when he talked about Vail it was always with a wild intensity bordering fanaticism.
The only thing he could speak of with greater fervor were his children. Bill was an adoring father, one who knew the importance of attending dance recitals, participating in Buddy Werner ski days and enjoying father-daughter dances. His kids will keenly feel his loss.
Bill is survived by wife, Evelyn J. Baca, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; children Jaime Pyka, William Baca-Pyka and Ava Isabella Baca-Pyka, of Vail; grandson Jaycee Winegarden, of Loja, Ecuador; and brothers Robert Pyka, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Walter Pyka, of Redbank, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his ex-wife and good friend Jackie Pyka.
A memorial has not been announced as of yet, but condolences may be sent to the family at 16 Millers Loop, Edwards, CO 81632.
