Vail Daily obituary: Billy James Neal
Billy James Neal passed away on Saturday at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Billy was born on Nov. 13, 1936, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Willie Ollie and Mildred Virginia Neal, who raised him in Duncan, Oklahoma.
He was celebrated as an all-state football player at Duncan High School in 1955.
Billy is survived by his wife of 57 years and the love of his life, Ann. Billy and Ann were a shining example of love and commitment for the rest of the family: son Mark Neal; daughter Julie Neal Clukies and her husband Paul Clukies; son Jay Neal and his wife Kay Neal; and grandchildren Nicole, Michael and his wife Courtney, Phillip, Jason, Thomas, Lauren; and great-granddaughter Hadley Ann.
Billy was a graduate of the University of Tulsa, where he excelled as an academic and a football player, and then Oklahoma University Medical School, where he studied to become a physician.
He spent his professional career practicing medicine in West Denver, where he and Ann raised their family. Billy and his partner founded Western Internal Medicine and Nephrology in Lakewood. Billy retired in 1993 and moved with Ann to the Vail Valley, where they spent 10 years making great friends, enjoying an outdoor lifestyle in the Colorado Rockies and taking wonderful vacations. In 2003, Billy and Ann moved to Tonto Verde, Arizona, where they have been embraced by a community of friends.
Billy leaves a legacy of humor, integrity, faith and most of all love.
A memorial service is being planned for the end of January in Denver; details are yet to be determined. Billy will also be celebrated at a gathering in Tonto Verde in April.
