Vail Daily obituary: Diane Braatz, 1959-2016

Diane Braatz, 57, passed away on Nov. 12 from complications of diabetes. She was the wife of Kerry Braatz and they shared 35 years of marriage. Diane was born in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Parker and Nellie Schmitz, of Allison, Iowa. She graduated from Allison Bristow High School, where she was active in cheerleading and many other activities. She attended Hawkeye Tech for Fashion Merchandising.
Diane Braatz was a member of the McCoy Community Church. She was a leader of the Community Center, an election judge, 4-H Club leader, Girl Scout leader, a member of Eastern Star, Women of Faith and volunteered at the Senior Center. Diane was an outspoken advocate of the First Amendment, especially when it came to the Minnesota Vikings.
Diane will be remembered for her big heart, beautiful smile, humor, lovable laugh, happiness, eagerness to listen, need to help others and she's never met a stranger. Diane is known for her strength and determination. She enjoyed many hobbies, such as knit night, her adventures to P'burg, camping and her grandchildren. She was up for all adventures.
She is survived by her spouse, Kerry Braatz; her children Benjamin Braatz (Brey), Shelby Lengerich (Jacques), Zachary Braatz (Angel); her grandchildren Harper and Naomi Lengerich, Lyncoln and Kingzton Braatz, Jaid Beacham; sister Deb Hummel; mother-in-law Gwen Braatz; and her pet morky Baxter. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Parker and Nellie Schmitz.
The celebration of life for Diane will be Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 Eagle Ranch 4098 Highway 131, Wolcott, beginning at 11 am. In memory of Diane's two favorite colors, accent your attire with red or Vikings purple.
