Vail Daily obituary: Don Bissett, July 26, 1953, to April 21, 2017

Don Bissett
Special to the Daily |

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Don Bissett’s passing on April 21, 2017. He died unexpectedly while vacationing in Mexico with family and friends.

Don grew up in Kenedy, Texas, attended Southern Seminary in Kentucky, and lived in Texas and Oklahoma before settling in Eagle County. As a pastoral counselor, minister and social services provider at Vail Valley Medical Center and ski instructor for Vail Resorts, Don provided a loving presence and spiritual enrichment to the community. His kind soul was known to many, and his loss will be deeply felt. He was a gentle giant with a warm and welcoming heart who lived life to the fullest.

Although Don’s physical presence has left us, his spirit lives on. For those of us who were blessed to call him “friend,” we will cherish the memories of the times we had together. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

Don is survived by his wife, Marita Bledsoe; daughter, Betsy Bissett; son, Joshua Bissett; grandson, Aidan Smith; his extended family and friends. A celebration of Don’s life will be held Saturday, June 10, at 4 p.m. at the Edwards Interfaith Chapel. Following the service, friends and family are invited to stay for a meal and a time of sharing.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a college fund set up for Joshua Bissett at First Bank; or to one of the following charities: Roundup River Ranch, for children affected by serious illnesses; or Coral Reef Alliance, for conservation and protection of the world’s coral reefs.
