Vail Daily obituary: Duane ‘Duke’ Fehringer, 1945-2015


Duane “Duke” Fehringer, 70, of Avon since 1989, passed away Dec. 1 in Houston.

He was born on April 15, 1945, in Humphrey, Nebraska, to Andrew and Rose Fehringer. He married Nancy Staquet.

Duke attended the University of Wyoming. He was a civil engineer, land surveyor and U.S. mineral surveyor at Intermountain Engineering in Eagle-Vail. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, traveling and camping with his family.

Duke is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Staquet; sons David Fehringer and wife Jessie and Michael Fehringer and wife Reim; daughter Michele Fehringer; step-children Kathy Hazel and husband Frank, Lee Staquet and wife Cheryl, Karen MacCleary and husband Vance and Ken Staquet and wife Ellen; 19 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers; four sisters; and numerous nephews and nieces.

A visitation will be held Sunday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Minturn from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with a memorial mass to begin at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion, 538 Eagle Road, Eagle-Vail. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jack’s Place in Care of Hospice of the Valley, 320 Bearden Road, Edwards, CO 81632.
