John H. D. Goemans, 69, of Lake Dillon, died Aug. 31 at the Port Orange Care Center in Port Orange, Fla., near Daytona Beach.
He was born May 21, 1942, in Green Bay, Wis. John was the son of the late Howard and Dorothy Goemans, of Green Bay, and the grandson of Peter J. and Kathryn Hahn Goemans, of De Pere, Wis. He graduated from Premontre High School and the University of Wisconsin in Madison (1966) with a degree in business administration. During his college years, he spent time in Aspen working for Stein Erickson, Olympic gold medalist, at his ski school at the Aspen Highlands ski area.
After graduation from college, he went to work for Scott Paper Co. in New Jersey before entering the investment banking business and returning to Colorado, where he owned a condo in Vail Village and could enjoy his favorite sports of extreme skiing and biking. John also enjoyed investment banking for a number of years because it offered many global travel and skiing opportunities in Europe.
In 1995, John moved to Summit County to open his own mortgage company, which also served Copper Mountain and Eagle County.
He also served for several years on the Lake Dillon Planning and Zoning Board.
John suffered a series of illnesses in 2010 and was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) while a patient at Mayo Clinic in April 2011.
He is survived by a brother, Gary Goemans (Shelia) of North Prairie, Wis., and four nephews, Timothy, Patrick, Christopher and Nicholas Goemans.
