Vail Daily obituary: Mary Juanita Lamont, 1923-2012
May 9, 2012
Mrs. Mary Juanita Lamont passed away in the loving care of her family at age 88 on May 7.
Juanita (“Nita”) was born to Mary Agnes and Charles Jones in Everett, Wash., on Nov. 23, 1923, the eldest of five siblings. She married her husband of 68 years, James Finley Lamont, who survives her, of Riverton, Wyo. on Oct. 9, 1943, prior to his deployment as a combat paratrooper to the European theater.
At war’s end, the couple settled in Riverton, where they raised three sons Jim, Greg and Tracy. Seeing opportunity in Wyoming’s flourishing energy industry, they moved their young family to Casper, Wyo., in 1958. Upon selling the family’s industrial supply business in the early 1980s, the couple retired to Mesa, Ariz., and Denver.
Juanita took fulfillment in the tenacious and loving shepherding of her family’s happiness and well-being. She taught her sons to abhor intolerance and to have respect for the equality and dignity of womanhood. She was true to the spirit of her generation. Her greatest gift was to teach her family the truest meaning of “shared self-sacrifice.” She inspired the respect, love and admiration of those who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Jim and wife Joan Norris Lamont, Greg Lamont and Tracy Lamont, grandson Joe and wife Sarah Lamont and great grandchildren, twins Logan and Henry Lamont. The family offers their heartfelt gratitude to Juanita’s son Greg and husband James who have been her devoted caregivers for the last several years.
A family memorial service was held on May 10 in Denver conducted by Father Hugh Guentner, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. We wish to express our deep appreciation to family and friends for your kind expressions of sympathy and support for our wife and mother.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance gifts may be made in the name of Mary Juanita Lamont to further the good works of the Hospice of Saint John, 1320 Everett Court, Lakewood, CO 80215. Remembrance messages may be mailed to Greg Lamont, 14075 West 71st Place, Arvada, CO 80004-1061 or emailed to glamont@LLJohnson.com.
