Vail Daily obituary: Oscar Sevilla, 1936-2016

Oscar Sevilla, 79, of Vail, and formerly of Nashua, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly while on vacation in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday.

He is survived by his wife, Alex Theis; his children, Michael (Christina), Leslie McGrath (Daniel), Mark (Erin); and his grandchildren, Isabel and Michael Sevilla and Aidan McGrath. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Castillo. He is predeceased by his mother, Corazon Sevilla.

Oscar was born in Manila, Philippines, on Dec. 13, 1936. He earned his medical degree at University of Santo Tomas and moved to the United States to complete his ear, nose and throat residency at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Oscar served in the Army and was stationed at Fort McClellan in Anniston, Alabama. In 1969, he moved to Nashua, where he practiced medicine for 25 years. He then went on to work for the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

An avid skier, Oscar started visiting Vail in the early 1970s. For the past 30 years, Vail has been his part-time and eventually his full-time home. He always enjoyed a great run in the Game Creek Bowl.

Oscar also loved to travel and explore new cultural adventures, always including food. He especially enjoyed his family vacations with his children and grandchildren.

The funeral will be held on Monday, June 13 at 10 a.m. St. Patrick’s Church in Minturn.
