Vail Daily obituary: Patricia Erin Coffey, 1946-2016

Pat ended her 41-year fight against metastatic cancer on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016. She passed at home under hospice care, attended by Bryan, her husband of 48 years, and sisters Jeanne Keenan and Elaine Stinchfield. She had suffered greatly and is now at peace.

Pat and Bryan retired to Edwards from Vienna, Virginia, in April of 2006. She enthusiastically joined the active outdoor retiree population hiking, snowshoeing and skiing. Pat was a Beaver Creek Red Coat, Betty Ford Garden and CASA volunteer. She never missed volunteering for the many Vail Valley Foundation events every year — from stuffing envelopes in the office to registering the media at the events. CAN DO/ Multiple Sclerosis was another volunteer opportunity she relished.

She enjoyed quilting, often donating custom quilts to MD Anderson Cancer Center silent actions. But most of all, GrandPat loved taking care of her two grandkids, Anna and Oliver — that brought her more joy than anything else. She said that while she wasn’t a native, she got here as fast as she could. Our retirement in the High Country couldn’t have been better — only longer.

Pat is survived by her husband, Bryan, of Edwards; son, Kelly; daughter-in-law, Genevieve; and grandchildren, Anna, 8, and Oliver, 6, of Truckee, California.

A memorial Catholic mass was held at the Beaver Creek Chapel on Friday, Nov. 4.
