Vail Daily obituary: Patricia Warren Bickel, 1928-2016
Patricia Warren Bickel died at her daughter’s home in Gypsum on June 15, 2016, at the age of 88.
She was born on March 26, 1928, in Arlington, Massachusetts, and lived in Hawaii for 50 years — first in Honolulu, then in Kona, on the Big Island and on Kauai. She was preceded in death by her son, Scott Warren Bickel, and her husband, George Philip Bickel.
Pat married in 1948 and was a loving companion to Phil and a devoted homemaker until he died in 2012. They left the East Coast in the early 1950s and lived for seven years in Japan, traveling several times via ocean liner across the Pacific. Pat loved living in Hawaii and was a golfer, sailor and enthusiastic hiker. She was especially fond of animals and volunteered at humane societies wherever she lived. On the Big Island, Pat and Phil built a ranch and raised a herd of llamas.
She is survived by her daughters, Lindsay (Greg) Kamm, of Lihue, and Cinthia (Bill) Walker, of Colorado; sister, Priscilla Samoiloff, of Massachusetts; grandchildren, Noel (Chase) Seibert, of California, Max Kamm, of Honolulu, Kacy (Chris) Smerke, of Oregon, and Jeff Walker, of Massachusetts; and great-grandchildren, Owen Seibert, Henry Seibert and Milo Smerke.
A private service will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific for Pat and Phil, who was a wartime officer in the Navy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Home Care and Hospice of the Valley, 1901 Grand Ave., Ste. 206, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.
