Vail Daily obituary: Tom Pitcher

Tom Pitcher died Nov. 14, a bright sunny day in Colorado, the kind of day that was good for flying, hiking, fishing and skiing, all of which he loved to do. Tom, a retired Delta Airline captain, was involved in the early days of Ski & Snowboard Club Vail. He helped out with the construction of the clubhouse and helped develop the Vail Cup race series. He was the first recipient of the Zella Gorsuch Memorial award in 1977. He continued to volunteer with the club for many years to come.

Tom is survived by his wife, Kay, and daughter, Stephanie. He was 81. A memorial gathering to honor Tom’s memory is being planned for early next year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Vail Valley Medical Center, P.O. Box 1529, Vail, CO 81658. For more information, call 970-477-5177.
