William Shapiro dies at 40
William A. Shapiro, 40, died unexpectedly Sept. 26, in Vail.A 1981 graduate of Longmeadow High School in Massachusetts, he attended UMass-Amherst for one year before moving to Colorado at the age of 19.His family said he loved the outdoors in Colorado, especially biking, skiing, and hiking. He had a kind and generous spirit, they recalled.He was predeceased by his father, Howard, in 1973. He leaves his mother Helen Shapiro of Greenfield, Mass.; two sisters, Sandi Mann of Newfane, Vt. and Judith Schaaf of South Hadley, Mass.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his former wife and dear friend Tela Shapiro of Edwards.There will be a memorial service Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Harold R. Ascher & Son Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Mass.There will also be a memorial service in Colorado to be scheduled at a later date.Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, 1111 Elm St Suite 9A, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.
