Oct. 4 is last day to register to vote

EAGLE COUNTY – The general election will be held on Nov. 2 less than seven weeks away, but there is still time to register to vote or request an absentee ballot. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 4 and the following requirements must be met:• You must be a citizen of the United States.• You must be 18 years of age by Election Day.• You must have resided in this state and the precinct in which you intend to register for at least 30 days immediately prior to the election.In addition to answering general questions, eligible electors who are registering in person must provide the last four digits of their social security number or a current and valid Colorado driver’s license number. State identification card numbers are also acceptable. If you prefer to register to vote by mail you will need to provide a copy of one of the following types of identification AND the last four digits of your social security number:• Valid Colorado driver’s license• Valid Colorado identification card• Valid U.S. passport• A valid U.S. military identification card with photograph• A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check or other government document that shows your name and your Eagle County residence address (cable bills are not acceptable)• A valid pilot’s license issued by the FAAAfter you are registered, if you prefer to vote at home rather than at the polling place you have the option of requesting an absentee ballot. If you request an absentee ballot you will be unable to vote at your polling place. You cannot drop these ballots off at the polling place, they must be mailed or hand delivered to one of the Eagle County Clerk’s offices before 7 p.m. on Election Day. The first batch of ballots will be mailed the week of Oct. 4 and will be mail out after that as requests are received, through Oct. 26. The deadline for requesting these ballots is Oct. 26. Absentee ballot requests can be mailed to Eagle County Clerk, P. O. Box 537, Eagle, CO 81631. These can also be hand delivered to any clerk’s offices or faxed to 328-8716. Early voting will take place in the clerk’s Eagle and El Jebel offices from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., from Oct. 18th to Oct. 29.
