It's only their second season, but the Vail Valley Vixens membership is climbing to new heights. This all-female group catering to road and mountain bikers alike welcomes women of all ages and abilities and teaches them something along the way.

Recently, the Vail Vixens hosted their biggest group yet during their morning ride with over 20 riders taking part on a route that took them up Bachelor Gulch from their meeting point at The Bookworm of Edwards.

The group is led by Nadine Davis and Celynn McClarrinon, two expert riders, but they don't make you feel intimidated. Davis and McClarrinon welcome the riders, give them an overview of the route, what they should expect, how to conduct themselves on the road and various safety tips.

The "peloton" made its way down U.S. Highway 6 and then grinded up Daybreak Ridge and Bachelor Ridge (you could choose how much you wanted to exert yourself!) and as you rounded the last switchback, you were greeted by cheers from other ladies who already made it to the top before you. On the way down, someone had the misfortune of getting a flat tire, but never fear, Davis was there and was able to get the Vixen back on two wheels again in no time.

Whether they are on the road or off to the side fixing flats, this group looks good with their colorful cycling kits from DNA Cycling, which are covered with logos from their many sponsors. The support is huge: Venture Sports, Revolution Power Yoga, Green Elephant Juicery, just to name a few, and with beer and spirit sponsors Vail Brewing Co. and 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirits Co., the social gatherings are fun as well.

But it's not all about the fun, it's also about giving back. The Vixens support The Cycle Effect as their nonprofit partner.
