Off the Hill with Tricia Swenson: The Lion Vail offers luxury residences

Just a few short years ago Vail was synonymous with new construction. Cranes filled the skyline as a revitalization of Vail's vital core took place. At nearly a half-century in age, it was time to build the town up to its world-class status.

Now the only new construction in town is the Lion, which offers commanding views from its perch on the northern edge of Lionshead.

Even though the Lion wasn't built alongside the properties that were being constructed during the renaissance era of Vail's New Dawn, it learned a lot from those projects. After years of thoughtful planning and design, the Lion took the best practices from other luxury construction offerings and now offers the latest in contemporary finishes, lifestyle and amenities.

"What we learned from other properties that were built before us was a need for more communal space. If we built a four-bedroom residence, we wanted enough room for that many people to gather in the living room," said Eustaquio Cortina, the Principal and Senior Broker at Cortina Real Estate.

Many people consider their pets to be family, too, so the property is pet friendly.

Oversized windows and nine-foot ceilings give the interior a grand feel, but the outdoors are just steps away. Lionshead houses ski school, the path along Gore Creek, as well as Adventure Ridge and Epic Discovery activities via the Eagle Bahn Gondola.

Although Lionshead has a lot of shops and restaurants, the bus stop is right across from the property in case you want to take a quick trip to Vail Village. But if you want to stay close to home, a new restaurant, salt-water resistance pool and fitness area await at the Lion.

Cortina has over 40 years experience in both real estate sales and development in the Vail Valley and knows what resonates with people. "What I love about The Lion is the warmth," said Cortina. "I love the family feel, the luxury finishes and overall quality of the building, and of course location, location, location is key."
