Office Depot coming to Avon
Office Depot, a national office-supply chain, has signed a lease to move into Avon’s Chapel Square, next to the new Gart Sports and Pier One stores.
The store, which will fill the rest of the space vacated by Wal-Mart, should open next spring, if not earlier, says Shane Bohart, director of development for Traer Creek, which leased the old Wal-Mart building.
“They have signed a lease and we anticipate they’ll be open for business the first week of April, if not sooner,” Bohart said Friday evening. “And Office Depot should make another great addition to Avon in terms of products and pricing.”
Chapel Square is owned by Lehman Brothers, but the old Wal-Mart space was leased by Traer Creek, the same company that built The Home Depot and the Super Wal-Mart at the Village at Avon nearby. Traer Creek then subleased the space to the three large retailers.
Bohart says Gart Sports, Pier One and Office Depot will be a successful retail mix.
“They’re all national tenants on long-term leases,” Bohart says. “They’re going to be here and they’re here to stay.
“And,” he adds, “they’re as price competitive as any store in the country, which is a good thing for the people in the valley.”
Business is reportedly brisk at Gart Sports and Pier One.

Company officials say every aspect of Vail management is now focused on attaining the company’s goal of achieving a zero net operating footprint by 2030. Vail Resorts calls the plan their “Commitment to Zero,” and defines it a zero net carbon emissions by 2030, zero waste to landfills, and zero operating impact on forests and natural habitat.
