Officer asked to slow down
Eagle, CO Colorado
EAGLE, Colorado – An Eagle police officer patrolling downtown at approximately 2:30 a.m. Oct. 20 spotted a small pickup stopped at stop sign along Capitol Street. The officer watched as the vehicle failed to slow for a speed bump and eventually swerved along the roadway.
When the officer pulled over the driver, the man exhibited slurred, slow speech and smelled of alcohol. The driver confessed to drinking four or five beers and said he had taken a sleeping pill.
After failing roadside maneuvers, the driver opted for a blood test to check his alcohol level. On the way to the hospital, the officer reported the man repeatedly criticized her driving and asked her to slow down.
At the hospital, the man requested to use the bathroom and was inside for a long period of time. The officer suspected the driver was attempting to stretch out the time before the blood test could be administered. The driver finally agreed to sign paperwork nearly two hours after the traffic stop.
He was charged with driving under the influence, weaving and failure to stop.
