Officials: 2nd Colo flu surge unlikely this season

DENVER – Colorado health officials say the threat of another surge in swine flu is likely over for this season, but they caution individuals could still be at risk.

Dr. Ken Gershman of the state health department said Thursday that Colorado’s outbreak peaked in October.

As many as 350 new cases week were reported in October, but the numbers dropped sharply after that.

Fewer than 20 new cases a week have been reported since mid-December.

Gershman says the Colorado outbreak wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but he says there was no single forecast on how severe it might be.

He says people are still at risk of getting the virus if they haven’t developed immunity, either by getting vaccinated or by being exposed to the virus.
