Oktoberfest in August on tap at Beaver Creek
Prepare your mugs, Oktoberfest is here. It’s late August, so logically it’s time for Oktoberfest in Beaver Creek, that traditional autumnal celebration of all things Bavarian, like oompah music, sausage, and, of course, beer. This year’s O-fest takes center stage Aug. 30 and 31 at the Beaver Creek Plaza. Admission to all events is free. Both days feature culinary demonstrations, free activities for kids, including a childrens’ stage, indoor discovery museum and a fun zone. There will also be a Bavarian costume contest (11 a.m.-3:45 p.m.), with the winner to be announced in the beer garden in the afternoon. Look for plenty of lederhosen, knee sox and dirndls.Food booths will be set up on the plaza by local restaurants including Beaver Creek Chophouse, Grouse Mountain Grill, Toscanini, Swill Stubli, Alpenrose, Blue Moose, and more. Soft pretzels and Almondi roasted nuts will also be available. Beverage booths will serve wine and beer. There’s plenty of music as well, with a visiting Austrian band and local favorite Helmut Fricker.Headlining the fest are the decidedly non-Bavarian Roomful of Blues, a Rhode Island group that has been touring since the late 1960s and has earned four Grammy nominations. The band will take the stage in the plaza from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day.Parking is free in the Village Hall and Villa Montane parking garages located in Beaver Creek Village, and the east and west day lots on Highway 6. Complimentary shuttles transport guests to and from the parking lots. For more information on Oktoberfest, upcoming events and lodging, visit http://www.beavercreek.com or call Beaver Creek Information at (970) 845-9090.
