VAIL — Three-time Olympic champion Misty May-Treanor is bringing her Dream in Gold junior volleyball clinic to Vail as part of the 44th annual Vail King of the Mountain Open.
May was born in 1977 in Los Angeles, and during her career she earned California all-state while playing for Newport Harbor High School.
She was an All-American and Player of the Year at Long Beach State University, before turning her attention to the beach game, establishing herself as the greatest player in beach volleyball. She won more professional tournaments, both on the domestic professional beach volleyball tour and in international competition, than any other women’s player — 112 titles in all.
To cap off her career, May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won three Olympic beach volleyball gold medals, in 2004, 2008 and 2012, earning them acclaim as the best beach volleyball team of all time.
May retired after the 2012 Olympics to create her Dream in Gold clinic series, to help develop future beach volleyball stars by teaching them all parts of the game as well to expand their knowledge of the sport.
The clinic in Vail will be her only stop in the Rocky Mountains.
