On the Hill: Monday’s Vail ski report with video
Vail official report: 1 inch new snow, 18 inches mid-mountain base.
Vail Daily field report: 1 inch heavy snow.
Liftline status: First-chair crowd-at Eagle Bahn was large today but quickly mellowed out.
Weather: Cold and cloudy, air is a little moister today.
Breakdown: When you’re this hungry for snow, sometimes a little is all you need. An inch of heavy snow layered itself over Vail’s impeccably groomed surface today, resulting in what may have been the best turns of the season for many. We’ve had other dustings this year, but not with snow this heavy and not since top-to-bottom skiing became available at Vail. The heavy snow makes an inch feel more like, well, 2 inches, which was good enough for the large group of anxious locals out at Vail this morning. The old phrase “an inch is as good as a mile” may not be applicable here, but you get the idea.
Snowcast: It looks like there’s more in the forecast for later in the week starting around Thursday.
