On the Hill: Thursday’s Vail ski report with video
Vail official report: 0″
Noon update: Changing conditions.
Weather: Warm and sunny with no clouds or wind.
Line at Chair 8: Large crowd at the Born Free Express, but the staff at Vail is doing a good job keeping everything organized. The singles line is extending back onto the bridge at times, but even at its longest the total wait is less than 10 minutes. With Chair 8 only loading from one side, the wait is not as bad as it appears.
9:30 a.m.: Line at Chair 8: Not a bad crowd for a holiday, a group of 20 or so at 9:15 a.m. but no real wait to board the chair.
Weather: Slightly colder with some high clouds and maybe a 1-2 mph breeze.
Breakdown: No new snow for which to be thankful, but Vail has their usual groom on Born Free, which should deserve a toast at your Thanksgiving table. No word on any new terrain opening, which many here were hoping was going to happen by today, but Michelle, lift supervisor from Melbourne, tells us tomorrow Chair 8 will begin taking passengers up at 8 a.m. rather than the 9 a.m. start which is usual for this time of year. So get out here early tomorrow to beat the crowds! Passes subject to blackout days won’t get you on the hill tomorrow or Saturday, so if you’re using a pass that isn’t the Epic Pass, double check to make sure you’re not blacked out Friday and Saturday. Also, you’d be wise not to attempt a passenger drop off in places other than the designated areas in Lionshead this morning, as the Vail PD is out enforcing the rules today. The bottom level of the Lionshead parking structure has a variety of drop-off options ranging from 5 to 30 minute parking spaces.
Snowcast: We’re hoping for something on Monday, so offer some sacrificial and symbolic mashed potatoes to Ullr this evening for luck. NOAA has nothing in their forecast, but the “weather” app on your iPhone has a picture of snowflakes next to Monday, so we’re going to go with that.
