Vail official report: “5 new snow overnight, “5 in last week

Vail Daily field report: By 9:15 a.m. it felt like 8 inches or so, with more falling

Weather: Cold and snowing

Liftline status: The morning crowd wasn’t as bad as expected for the first powder day of the season, but more people were on the way during the 9 a.m. hour

Run of the day: North Rim and lower Prima are open, and with the new snow they’re probably fantastic

Breakdown: Vail reported 5 inches of new snow at 5 a.m., and it has continued to fall since then. Conditions were great; expect more terrain openings soon.

Snowcast: The only day NOAA is forcasting no snow for the rest of the week is Friday, although the bulk of it should come down today.
