Report: Vail Daily reporter John LaConte takes the cold plunge as Avon Postmaster Mike Kervin delivers the wind-up, and the pitch, for a perfect strike in the new and improved Kids Zone at Avon’s annual Salute to the USA. The “Going Postal Dunk Tank” was a community outreach effort from Kervin and Avon Councilman Jake Wolf to help residents see fewer packages returned from the Avon Post Office.

Today’s forecast: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 and 5 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. — National Weather Service
