Vail official report: 4″ new snow, 16″ in last week

Vail Daily field report: By 9:30 a.m., it felt like 5-6 inches

Weather: Cold and snowy

Liftline status: Less than 5 min wait at Gondola One and Chair 4

Run of the day: Zot

Breakdown: We’re off to a great start to the 2013-14 ski season here in Vail, with a 32-inch base at mid mountain and 19 of Vail’s 31 lifts now running. However, the entire back side of the mountain and Blue Sky Basin are still closed, and with only 27 percent of Vail’s more than 5,000 acres open for skiing, there’s still plenty of openings to look forward to.
