After nearly a decade of on-again, off-again plans for development, ground was broken on The Gates, just east of the entrance to Beaver Creek in Avon.

Once conceived as the Chateau St. Claire, the 130,000-square-foot building will consist of 46 fractionally owned luxury units; six units for employees; as well as a private spa, lobby, bar and library. Construction on the $50 million development will begin next month and completion is scheduled for the fall of 2005.”Our concierge staff will provide the ultimate turn-key experience for our owners,” said Tim Barton of Dallas-based JMJ Holdings, which is building The Gates.

JMJ Holdings has developed high-end projects in other parts of the world, including the Rosewood Club in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; the Tangara Palace Hotel and Resort In Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Las Ventanas in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. “I’ve always been impressed by the quality they instill in their properties,” said Jerry D. Jones of Jerry D. Jones & Associates Real Estate. “JMJ’s philosophy regarding luxury properties ensures The Gates will share the same standards as such properties as the Ritz-Carlton Club in Bachelor Gulch and other comparable high-end properties in Beaver Creek.”Cliff Thompson can be reached at cthompson@vaildaily.com.
