One-acre wildland fire being fought near Dotsero
Vail, CO Colorado
DOTSERO, Colorado ” Firefighters are fighting a one-acre grass and brush fire next to the Colorado River near Dotsero.
The fire, reported about 3 p.m., is more than five miles up Colorado River Road from Dotsero, said Chief Dave Vroman of the Gypsum Fire District. Five firefighters are holding the fire to one acre in a narrow canyon, Vroman said.
“I don’t think it’s going to get significantly bigger,” Vroman said.
The fire is on the east side of the river, separating it from the road and some ranches on the west side, Vroman said. No buildings are threatened, he said.
A spark from a train using its brakes may have started the fire, he said.
Firefighters will continue to fight the fire tonight and then will return tomorrow morning to inspect it, he said.
