One killed, three injured in crash outside Eagle

Daily staff report

EAGLE, Colorado – One man was killed and three injured in a single-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 70 on Saturday afternoon just outside of Eagle.

The rollover crash, which occurred near mile marker 149.1, two miles east of the Eagle exit, involved a 1993 Jeep Wrangler, from California, with four male occupants.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the initial investigation reflects the vehicle was in the right-hand lane on eastbound I-70 when it suffered a failure to the left rear tire. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road and began to roll before colliding with the animal fencing.

As the vehicle rolled, three of the four men were ejected. The only occupant to remain in the vehicle was in the front passenger seat.

According to Colorado State Patrol, one passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three men were transported by ambulance to Vail Valley Medical Center. Two of the men remain at the Vail hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while one was treated and released. The identities of the men were not known.

Alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered factors in the crash. The crash is still under investigation, the Colorado State Patrol said.
