One million riders take Eagle County buses

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A lagging economy mean boom times for ECO Transit, Eagle County’s bus system. The agency reached a record one million riders on Friday, surpassing the previous record of 956,000 trips, set last year.

To celebrate the event, ECO Transit recognized its one millionth passenger, Ricardo Zamora, of Eagle. Zamora was awarded an annual pass for ECO Transit and a new pair of Salomon skis and boots, courtesy of 97.7 FM KZYR and the Snowboard Outreach Society.

“I’m pleased to say that Ricardo Zamora rides the bus regularly, and the drivers think highly of him,” said Transit Planner David Johnson. “He was really happy to win.”

ECO Transit expects to reach 1.2 million passengers by the end of the year, a 25 percent increase over 2007.
