Opening delayed again for Dillon Walgreens
Dillon, CO Colorado
DILLON ” The opening of Dillon, Colorado’s new 16,000-square-foot Walgreens has been pushed back again to a yet-to-be-determined date in the spring.
Though the actual building’s construction is complete, the opening date originally was projected by town officials to be in November and then January.
“Right now, it’s on track to open in spring,” said Tiffani Washington, a spokeswoman for the Walgreens corporate office. “As it gets closer, a date will be narrowed down.”
Steve Heitz, a spokesman at Pace Properties ” the developer and owner of the Walgreens site ” speculates that the business will open in the next 60 days. He had no knowledge of a firm date.
“It’s Walgreens’ call,” Heitz said. “This is a little bit different animal, because its up in the mountains. They have to deliver all the stock. It might take longer.”
The business is located on two acres of land between the Comfort Suites and Blockbuster Video on Dillon Ridge Road.
Initial approval for the chain store came through in March 2007, but developers broke ground later than expected because legal agreements with the town weren’t finalized until July.
Walgreens will provide Summit County with its only 24-hour pharmacy, and Dillon officials are eager to have another high-profile business in the shopping center.
A Qdoba Mexican Grill also is under construction on an adjacent lot and is set to open some time later this year in a building that can house several other businesses.
Two more lots are still for sale by property owner Dillon Ridge Partners.
“We are really anticipating that Walgreens with be a great contributor to sales tax,” said Melissa Wyatt, a Dillon planner. “It’s working out. Walgreens is there, and we’re pleased.”
